What is a Health Promoter?

The Community Health Promoter approach is internationally recognized and we have adapted it to the specific needs of low-income, immigrant Latinos living in northwest Chicago. Our extensive training program has thrived because of its peer-to-peer, grassroots nature that combines cultural integration and competence with public health expertise. The Community Health Promoters conduct outreach and training that focuses on the following education and referrals: Heart health, diabetes, nutrition, exercise, cancer, HIV/AIDS/STD prevention and education, Alzheimers education, pre/post-natal health, doula training and service, car safety seat education and distribution, domestic violence, and other topics.
